Wanaka to Greymouth
The Wanaka to Greymouth route is 458kms along the western coastline of the South Island. One of the highlight of the route is the alpine Haast Pass through Mt. Aspiring National Park. After this you’ll be on the west coast which you’ll head north into the glaciers (Fox Glacier and Franz Josef Glacier) and then to Greymouth. If you have time or fancy a challenge, Arthur’s Pass gives a stunning mountain ride down to Christchurch.
Greymouth to Haast
The Greymouth to Haast route is about 317kms along and will have you cycling through rainforests and the South Islands glaciers. The route should take about 3-4 days to complete with a lot of options for accommodation along the way. Christchurch to Blenheim
At 314kms the Christchurch to Blenheim route takes you along the east coastal road. For those wanting more adventure consider taking the Molesworth Road. It’s not an easy ride but it’s stunningly beautiful and isolated. You’ll mostly be cycling on a dirt road so be sure to have the proper equipment for such terrain and stock up well with food and water.
Napier to Wellington
On the North Island one of the best routes is Napier to Wellington. This route is 330kms long and will take about 3-5 days to complete. It’s advised to take the backroads for this route to experience a more quiet and scenic route.
