New Zealand Rental Car Optional Extras
Tuesday, March 18th, 2014Read about 'New Zealand Rental Car Optional Extras' on USAVE, the place for all things car rental.
Many New Zealand rental car companies provide the very basics with their hire vehicles, so if you’re renting a car for a Kiwi road trip or self drive holiday, adding a few optional extras can make your journey easier, safer and more comfortable.
At USAVE we have a number of optional extras you can choose from to help you make the most of your rental car and your trip. These are an additional cost (as you will find with most rental car companies), but they are very affordable and can prove invaluable depending on the type of travel you want to do.
USAVE’s Rental Car Extras
1. GPS Navigation Unit
If this is your first time in New Zealand and you plan on leaving the main highways, a GPS system can be a great investment. Although roads are usually signposted well, it’s still easy to head in the wrong direction without knowing it. It’s also very useful for getting through large cities, where there often isn’t a direct path from one end of the highway to the other. When travelling on our more remote rural roads, your GPS system can also help you spot any difficult terrain or corners that are coming up.
2. Roof Rack
Available on our station wagons and four wheel drive rental cars, a roof rack provides you with lots of extra storage. If you’re planning on camping or transporting extras such as kayaks and canoes, a roof rack can be a life saver.
3. Ski Racks
If you’re bringing your own snow gear up to the slopes, a ski rack is an absolute essential. They’re specially designed to carry skis without damaging them, saving you room inside the car for a more comfortable journey.
4. Snow Chains
If you’re planning to head anywhere inland or far south during winter, carrying ski chains is an absolute essential. Every year we hear stories about drivers slipping off the road or becoming stuck because they didn’t have snow chains. These are available for cars, four wheel drives, minibuses and people movers, so whatever model rental car you choose you can be sure of safe driving in any conditions.
5. Baby and Child Booster Seats
If you’re driving with children, their safety is absolutely essential. Any child under 7 years of age must be properly restrained by an approved child restraint. Having a booster seat of the correct size ensures that the seat belt is able to secure them properly in an accident. We can provide both kinds of seats and help you fit it into the car.
6. Chilly Bin
Also known as an Esky, or a cooler, a chilly bin is a portable cooling storage container for your drinks and food. Perfect for a hot summer trip or storing your food for longer trips.
7. Vehicle Liability Excess Reduction
Unlike many New Zealand car rental companies, USAVE also offers the choice of reducing your insurance excess to $0 for a small daily fee (many others will only lower the excess). This can be a huge weight off your mind as the $1,500-$2,500 standard excess fee can be a large burden if you have an accident.
Optional extras offer added safety, comfort and convenience, so if you’d like one included with your rental vehicle make sure you let the USAVE car hire branch know at the time of your booking. If you’re booking online you can select your extras after you have chosen your rental vehicle.
We hope you have a great trip!
