Bungy jumping started with the people of Vanuatu in the Pacific who have been throwing themselves from huge towers for centuries with nothing more than a few vines tied to their feet. New Zealander AJ Hackett saw a video of this and his imagination took over. Teaming up with a fellow speed skier Henry Van Asch they developed the modern bungy jump which took off in November 1988 at Queenstown.
If you fancy a spot of adventure in the North Island, Taupo Bungy is considered one of the world’s most spectacular jump sites. Taupo bungy is located in the stunning volcanic Waikato River Valley, just 5 minutes from Taupo town centre.
Taupo is approx 280km (3.5 hours) from our Auckland City car rentals branch and about 240km (3 hours) from our Palmerston North car rentals depot.
